About Brooke

Brooke de Lench is the founder and Editor In Chief of MomsTeam.com, an enlightening and empowering website for mothers of children who play youth sports. MomsTeam.com provides information on a wide array of issues of interest from health, safety, and nutrition to the psychology of parenting a young athlete. Brooke has been featured on major TV networks -- ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox -- and contributed to two documentaries on youth sports, which aired on HBO and A&E respectively. She has appeared frequently in print press, including Reader's Digest, Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times, and Washington Times. She is also established and is now on the Board of Directors of Teams of Angels, a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing catastrophic injury in youth sports. She is the mother of three sons and lives in the Boston area.

"Already, because of Brooke de Lench's inspiration and dedication, a powerful movement of mothers dedicated to improving youth sports has taken form. This immensely readable book assembles brilliantly the most important lessons she has learned, from parents and children on the edges of danger, as well as respected athletes, educators, physicians, trainers, and coaches. Were every mother of a sports-loving child to read this brilliant assessment of the promise and peril that awaits them and their family, and to listen to her wise and thoughtful voice, I am confident that their bonds of love would be strengthened, and their fields of sport would become happier, safer, and more fulfilling places. Brooke is a trustworthy messenger of essential knowledge for the many adults and children who are concerned to change the dangerous games of childhood. I wish that every pediatrician, school principal, and coach would read this book, too, because from their surprise and consternation at everything they didn't know, and their resolve to do something, would flow a parallel professional groundswell to involve and empower mothers."

author, "The Men They Will Become: The Nature and Nurture of Male Character"

In a time when more and more of our children are involved in sports, it is refreshing to find a book such as this one. Ms. de Lench has produced a common sense, easy-to-read book that should be a must read for every parent-male or female-who has or might have a child involved in sports. How refreshing to find an author who reminds us that sports should be about fun first. Sports become the building block for confidence, sportsmanship, team work, etc. I highly recommend this book to families, educators and sports fans."

"This excellent book helps parents develop a rational perspective in a youth sports environment that seems to push harder and harder every season. It also offers concrete and practical suggestions on how to manage everything from practice schedules to gym bags. A+!"

- Karleen (Milpitas, CA)

"The involvement of mothers in sports is not a new thing, but their role is changing. No longer do they just transport children from place to place, now they are active. This book clear outlines the importance of mothers in sports and steps to follow. There is a fine line between beneficial involvement and 'too' much. This book helps to find the balance."
